PREREQUISITE: You must have taken your 4 hour introductory Design Center (IQ Designer) class. A level of expertise with this program is expected prior to this class. You should have familiarity with line properties and fill properties.

Description: In this class the Dream Big panel becomes a canvas for creativity! We will be creating our own designs using the built-in fills in Design Center (IQ Designer) on your Brother Aveneer (Radiance) or Luminaire (Solaris). You will learn how to use the scanning feature, how to set a perimeter and then how to apply a fill on your machine. We will also show you how to use built in shapes in Design Center (IQ Designer) to create  your own designs and even add a little distortion 🙂 show you how to and off-set these fills.  By the time you are finished with your panel, you will be ready to use this technique on an endless variety of projects.

In PART 1 we will work with the fills that a re built into your machines Design Center (IQ Designer).

In class we will do as many petals as we can in 3 hours. After that you will continue on your own. You can finish as a quilt or join me later, I’m making a bag out of mine.

There will be a class 2 session for those of you that want to explore purchased fills you can load into Design Center (IQ Designer) like the ones from Babylock and many other fun techniques.

What to prepare :

  • Your machine with embroidery foot attached

  • I’d recommend using the biggest hoop that comes with your machine.  If you’re on the Solaris or Luminaire, bring your 10 ½” x 16” hoop.  The 10 ½” x 16” Snap Hoops are ideal for this project.  For the Aveneer (Radiance) your 11.625' X18.25" hoop or a Snap Hoop. For this class, Snap Hoops will be available at 20% off.

  • For threads, if you want a more subtle look, use Wonderfil Deco Bob 80wt or Invisafil 100wt (we carry these at the store).  If you want a more bold look, use regular embroidery thread.  They both look beautiful.  I’d recommend bringing threads in multiple weights and colors so you have some options.  We also carry DecoBob, Invisafil and regular embroidery thread. You might want to match your bobbin thread to your top thread.

  • Snips

  • Good Tweezers

  • Hoop Tightener

  • Needles - I used a Madeira 75/11 anti-glue but you could use a 75/11 or 80/12 needle

  • Clover Double sided basting tape if you’re using a traditional hoop (not Snap Hoop)

  • If you’re on a Luminaire(Solaris) have a corded mouse handy.  Make sure the mouse works with your machine before the class.  If your machine has upgrade 3 installed (or you have an XP3(Vision) there was a new stylus that has a clear tip. That one is great to work with. You can also use a capacitive Stylus.  To be honest with you, all the styluses work okay.  The mouse is the best option but I go between my mouse, my stylus and my finger.  =)

  • If you are on the Aveneer(Radiance) you have the option of using a wireless mouse. Make sure the mouse works with your machine before the class. The stylus that cam with your machine has a clear tip on one end that also works well.

Fabric requirements:

  • Link for Floral Panel: This panel is 44” x 45” (Available for purchase from the store)

  • Make a quilt sandwich with backing, batting and the panel.  The batting and the backing should be at least 4” - 6” bigger than the panel on every side.  So backing and batting should be at least 53” x 53” up to 57” x 57”

  • Spray baste or pin, either way works.
